is God able?
Includes material from Bill Hybels book: 'Too Busy Not to Pray'
Do you bring all of your requests to God. For many of us the answer is 'no', often because we don't really believe that God is able to do anything about the situation we're in. In other words we lack 'faith' in God and we end up trying to live life in our own strength.
The key question for us is: 'Is God able to help us?' If he is then we have a good reason for trusting him. In Bill Hybels' book he confesses "the real reason my prayers were weak is because my faith was weak".
Both the bible and Christians' stories give many accounts of God's power over nature, our lives and our circumstances. The bible also tells us that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow (Mal. 3:6, Heb. 13:8) and he does not grow weary (Is. 40:28).
God is able. He's able to:
-
to save 3 followers from a fiery furnace that was so hot that the accompanying guards died (Da. 3:17)
-
to save Daniel from the lions (Da. 6: 20-22)
-
to give a child to 90 year old Sarah (Rom. 4: 18-21)
-
to give his followers all that they need (2 Cor. 9: 8)
-
to save completely those who come to God through Jesus (Heb. 7: 25)
-
to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Eph. 3 :20)
God is able - the question is 'do you believe it?'
