tips for getting started
From the When2Pray book
Couple prayer is a “three cornered conversation”. There is a loving atmosphere. The more natural our prayers; the more real Jesus will become to us.
Don’t try to impress the other one!
Make an agreement not to refuse a suggested time of prayer.
Pray as you can – just be yourselves.
Allow for the uniqueness of the other and take into account how different the spiritual journey of your husband or wife may have been from your own. Stand in their shoes.
Be flexible – relax.
Be patient with each other.
Remember, praying is not an entrance exam to heaven!
Try to find a regular agreed time.
Chill out, laugh and keep starting again.
Don’t use a “holy voice”.
Disconnect the phone.
Don’t give up.
Encourage the other regardless of how you feel.
